Camp Muir Hike (2014-06-07)
A bit behind on trip reports here, but let’s go back to early June. We had a BEAUTIFUL day to go up to Camp Muir, the standard base camp for Mt. Rainier climbers. Here’s Mt. Rainier, from the parking lot at Paradise, ~5500ft elevation:
Excellent clear, warm day, AND the snow started all the way from the parking lot. This makes it a lot more fun. Hiking in snow is so much nicer on your feet when wearing mountaineering boots.
There really isn’t very much to add. The hike was beautiful all the way through, and unlike last year when we did it, I felt great the whole time. Not really tired/exhausted, even with the extra training weight in my pack:
That’s a lot of water, man! People at camp really appreciate it, too. Melting snow can be a pain, and distributing training water saves people a lot of time out there. Throughout the hike, we could see Mt. Adams in the distance:
It looks really imposing in the distance. At 12,281ft high, it’s considerably smaller than Rainier, but a great climb in itself… We’ll get to that one this year, if time/weather permit it.
We were able to glissade a lot of the distance on the way down, making it a really fun descent as well.
Here are some of my fav pictures, and a link to the full album:
That’s all for this one! Check out the full Camp Muir album for more photos!
